After completing 3 years in Iraq as a Construction Manager for the Department of Defense, Rafferty began his current career in land work. Over the past 15 years, he has served in numerous management positions, overseeing land teams for numerous public and private clients. Rafferty's experience ranges from oil & gas exploration to publicly-funded public utility projects. Some of his project experience includes:
- Land Manager for a publicly-traded exploration company where he managed a drill schedule of 24 rigs and oversaw the midstream development of over 1,000 miles of pipeline in the Haynesville Shale.
- Oversaw the exploration and development of multiple oil & gas assets for BPX in East Texas, purchasing all well sites, water, pipelines, and surface facilities in the development of production.
- Assisted in the development of TxDOT's Hwy 183 expansion project in Dallas, Texas, being specifically responsible for resolving disputes with contentious landowner parcels.
